Privacy policy

The short version

• Suncall has no accounts. You never give it a name, an email address or a password.
• Your alarms, your recorded mornings, your bedtime talks and your photos are kept on your iPhone. There is no Suncall server holding them.
• While you are talking to Suncall, what you say is sent to the services below so it can be understood and answered.
• Offline, nothing leaves your phone at all.
• There is no advertising, no analytics and no tracking, and nothing is sold or shared for marketing.

What Suncall keeps on your iPhone

All of this stays in the app's own storage on the device:

• Your alarms and routines — times, days, and the reason you gave for each one.
• A record of each morning — what was said on both sides, when you were offered a photo, what the verdict was, whether you snoozed, and how it ended.
• Bedtime talks, recorded the same way.
• Photos you took to prove you were up.
• Your statistics — wake-up times, and the run of mornings you got up on the first ring.

None of it is uploaded anywhere, backed up to a Suncall server, or readable by anyone but you. It is included in your iPhone's own encrypted backups if you make them.

What leaves your iPhone, and when

Only while a conversation is actually happening. Three things go out:

What you say, during a conversation

When Suncall talks to you in the morning, or at bedtime, your microphone audio is streamed live to Deepgram, which turns it into text and speaks Suncall's replies back. The stream lasts as long as the conversation and is not kept by Suncall afterwards.

The words of the conversation

The text of what is said, along with the reason you set for the alarm and what has happened so far that morning, is sent to OpenAI, which writes what Suncall says next.

A photo you chose to take

If you take a photo to prove you are up, it is sent to OpenAI to check whether it shows what you said it would. The verdict comes back, and the photo itself stays on your phone. Suncall never looks at your photo library — only at pictures you take inside the app at that moment.

When you are offline

With no connection, none of the above happens. Your iPhone transcribes what you say on the device itself, using Apple's built-in speech recognition, and Suncall speaks from a script it prepared earlier. Nothing is sent anywhere.

The services Suncall uses

• Deepgram — live speech recognition and the voice you hear. Receives your microphone audio during a conversation.
• OpenAI — writes Suncall's side of the conversation and checks proof photos. Receives conversation text and any photo you take.
• Apple — delivers the app and its alarms. Apple gives Suncall anonymous download and crash figures; it never sees anything from inside the app.

Both services are used to process a request and return an answer. Suncall does not send them your name, your email address or any identifier for you, because it does not have any.

Paying for Suncall

Subscriptions are sold and handled entirely by Apple. Your card details, your billing address and your Apple Account never reach Suncall — the app is only told whether this iPhone currently has a subscription, and nothing about who bought it. That is also why cancelling and refunds go through Apple rather than through us.

Permissions, and what each is for

• Alarms — so Suncall can wake you and keep talking until you are up.
• Notifications — so an alarm can reach you.
• Microphone — so it can hear your answers and tell whether you are awake.
• Speech recognition — so it can understand you on the iPhone itself when there is no connection.
• Camera — so you can photograph what you are doing. Optional; the morning works without it.

Any of them can be withdrawn at any time in iPhone Settings → Suncall. Suncall does not ask for your location, contacts, health data, or your photo library.

Deleting everything

Because it all lives on your phone, deleting the app deletes all of it — every morning, every talk, every photo, every statistic. There is no account to close and nothing to ask us to erase. If you would like the emails you have sent us deleted as well, write to [email protected] and we will remove them.

Children

Suncall is not directed at children under 13, and it does not knowingly collect anything from them.

Changes

If what Suncall sends out ever changes, this page changes with it, and the date below changes too. Material changes will be called out in the app's release notes.
